SARMA Day 1 Opening Remarks (5/13)
Posted by JBW on 16 May 2008
Well I promised some posts about the 2nd Annual SARMA Conference and here they are.
To start the day off we had a display of our nations colors and singing of the National Anthem put on by the George Mason University’s Police Force. This was the first time that this had ever happened and I felt it was rather important so hopefully the tradition continues on to next year.
Our first speaker of the day was Mr. Ed Jopek who is the current president of SARMA. We were the only school group in attendance and he acknowledged us during his opening speech which I found to be really cool. He mentioned how much SARMA has evolved in the past year, and frankly it seems likes its headed in the right direction. They recently launched a website known as the SARMApedia. One of the main reasons that SARMA was formed, and we heard about it almost in every single breakout session was the need for a common lexicon to be developed. Basically what I took away from that is that the Risk Management / Risk Analysis industry needs to be standardized, there are too many different ways of analyzing risk so one method needs to become the norm.. sort of like the Accounting Industy.
That pretty much wraps up the opening part of the day. More to come on breakout sessions..
Happy Blogging,
JB
